Launch Event for ‘The Friends of Blackhall Nursery’

Thursday 14th of March 2013 - 8pm, Blackhall Nursery, Ravelston Park Pavilion

All welcome!alt

We are thrilled to announce the launch of ‘The Friends of Blackhall Nursery’ at a celebratory and informal event with light refreshments at 8pm on Thursday 14th of March in the Nursery in Ravelston Park Pavilion.

Blackhall Nursery was set up in 1999 by a group of enthusiastic and committed parents who felt strongly that Blackhall should have its own pre-school provision. Armed with a grant from the City of Edinburgh Council with which to repair the burnt out Pavilion building and with paintbrushes, hammers and sundry DIY equipment, we recruited two members of staff, 14 children and opened one morning in September 1999.  This was no mean feat, as mountains of paperwork had to be completed and the building had to be restored and inspected, all in less than three months from start to finish.  The project occupied those Blackhall parents intensely – and it continues to do so for the many parents who volunteer their time and their energy still!

We quickly moved from strength to strength, as interest, support and demand for places grew. We started an afternoon class, then extended and took in 24 children each morning and each afternoon (48 in total), extended again and now accommodate 56 children in all.

To celebrate nearly 14 years of Blackhall Nursery, we are launching the Friends group in order to reach out to all our community supporters, our former parents and our former pupils.  The first intake of children is now about to leave school education – they are in S6 or in college and are about to launch into the world!  We are hoping that those young people will be our guests of honour, along with former staff.

Please do come along to the launch event if you are able to.  Over the years, we have had many friends, staff members and helpers from the wider community, who have supported us in providing the wonderful and highly acclaimed Blackhall Nursery early years education experience for literally hundreds of children - and we would love to see you.
