Health & Wellbeing

image of healthy snacksThe Nursery introduced the Health Promoting Schools initiative in 2007 and has been actively involved in rolling out the Healthy Early Years initiative to other partner providers within Edinburgh.   We were delighted to receive Stage 1 accreditation in September 2011, Stage 2 in September 2014 and the final level, Stage 3 in June 2016.

We take a hollistic view of health and are committed to improving the health and wellbeing of all children, parent/carers and staff.  We do this by involving the children in exploring food, physical activity and their surroundings as well as by actively promoting our Eco initiative and encouraging children to discuss this with friends and family.

Our food policy follows the latest nutritional guidelines from "Setting the Table", a document published by Health Scotland.   This provides advice for both early years childcare providers and parents on healthy eating for children aged 1-5.

Each year the children are involved in a Health Fortnight which focuses on healthy eating and physical activity, introducing them to new and interesting food choices and activities.
